Penguin and Gnu, who is who? Here is a whitepaper about ADS's participation in Open Source. It may answer question you have about Linux in the embedded world.

Embedded Linux on Single Board Computers

Embedded Linux is a rich and flexible environment for building embedded systems. From cross compilers and bare bones root file systems to full featured development environments, there are several alternative ways to meet most requirements.

We are now offering full Embedded Linux on the PXA270 single board computer, BitsyXb. We offer   Embedded Linux with EABI Floating Point Support for Freescale , and Linux on the EP3515 Sphere as well

For most developers, ADS recommends using Debian installed on an Microdrive as a platform for building applications. The advantage of using the Microdrive is that all the tools familiar to Desktop Linux developers are present right on the board. This includes compilers, debuggers, libraries, etc. In addition, Debian provides many thousands of optional packages that can be downloaded, installed and configured with a simple command. These packages include development tools, applications, libraries, etc.

You can purchase your development system from ADS along with a Microdrive with Debian pre-installed. With this option, you can start building your application minutes after receiving your development system. With Debian on the microdrive there is no requirement to configure a separate development system with cross compilers and other tools unfamiliar to most linux developers.

After development is complete and the system is ready to be deployed simple tools provided by ADS can be used to fit the application onto the on-board flash of the board so that deployed systems do not require a microdrive

Telephone support, email support, user forums and custom development projects - the ADS GNU/Linux team will do what it takes to make your embedded linux project successful.
